On December 13th, the development strategy Seminar and academic Report meeting of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Southeast University was held in Nanjing. Academician Xiong Rengen of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, over twenty experts and scholars from relevant universities and research institutes under the Ministry of Education, as well as relevant responsible persons and teacher representatives from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Southeast University attended the meeting. Feng Jianming, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Southeast University, director of the Policy Research Office and Minister of United Front Work, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
In his speech, Feng Jianming expressed his gratitude to all the experts for their long-term support and assistance. He reviewed the rich achievements that the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering has made through the continuous efforts of several generations, adhering to the spirit of the school motto "Striving for Perfection". In the field of basic research, original breakthroughs have emerged. The team led by Academician Xiong Rengen established the discipline of "ferroelectrochemistry" and won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award. Serve the major national demands and regional economic development in key technological breakthroughs. The talent cultivation system has been increasingly improved, the teaching staff has been continuously optimized, and the influence of disciplines has gradually increased. These achievements are inseparable from the support of the school leadership, society, and the hard work and dedication of all the teachers, students and staff of the college. Standing at a new historical juncture, in the face of the profound changes unseen in a century in the world and the new wave of technological revolution, it is necessary to conduct an in-depth analysis of the new opportunities and challenges that the discipline and college of chemistry and chemical engineering are confronted with. This meeting aims to consolidate the consensus of the entire college, pool the wisdom of all parties, deeply review the past, analyze the internal and external environment, and draw up a blueprint and implementation path for the high-quality development of the college. It is hoped that the experts attending the meeting will speak freely and offer suggestions, providing diagnosis and advice for the development of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of our university. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhang Li, the secretary of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. President Yang Hong gave a detailed report to the experts present on the college's historical development, faculty, discipline construction, student cultivation, research platforms, problems and challenges, as well as its development plans. The experts attending the meeting engaged in a lively and in-depth discussion on topics such as discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research, and serving national strategies, and put forward many specific and forward-looking valuable suggestions. Subsequently, the meeting moved on to the session of reporting and exchanging research progress. The young teachers from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering respectively reported on their research progress. The report covers multiple cutting-edge research directions including the synthesis of new functional materials, AI optimization of chemical processes, polymer materials, exploration of molecular ferroelectricity, new catalytic technologies, and biochemical analysis. The experts provided detailed comments and guidance on the research content of each young teacher. It not only affirmed the innovative thinking demonstrated by the young teachers in their scientific research work, but also precisely pointed out the deficiencies in the research and put forward highly constructive suggestions for improvement, broadening the scientific research horizons of the young teachers. At the end of the meeting, Academician Xiong Rengen delivered a concluding speech. He expressed his approval of the successful holding of this meeting and emphasized that it had built an exchange platform for the development of the college. Regarding the research work of young teachers, he not only expressed his satisfaction with their growth and progress but also placed his earnest expectations on them. It is hoped that young teachers will always adhere to their original intention of scientific research, stand at the forefront of their disciplines, be courageous in tackling difficulties and daring to innovate and break through.
