主讲人简介:

Prof. Kawaguchi received his B.S., M.S. and Ph. D degrees (Engineering) from Keio University in Japan, He started his academic career in Keio University in 1969 and was promoted to full professor in 1989 in the Department of Applied Chemistry. From March of 1978 to April of 1979 he worked with Professor Otto Vogl in University of Massachusetts as a postdoctoral researcher.  In the department of applied chemistry of Keio university, he was the head of the department from 1997 to 2003. He directed one of big national projects named 21st century COE as the leader of Keio team. He was a visiting professor of Kinki University from 2001 to 2006. He retired Keio University in 2010 and was given the title of emeritus professor of Keio University. In the same year, he was invited by Kanagawa University as a special professor and worked there for 5 years. But, he still stays in Kanagawa University as a visiting professor.

Prof. Kawaguchi has achieved international reputation for his work in polymer particles and gels covering the synthesis to the applications. His current research efforts are aimed at the functionalization of microgesl, e.g., development of environment responsive microgels, new process for micro hydrogel preparation, ordered microgel assembly.

Prof. Kawaguchi has authored 196 articles published in peer-reviewed Journals, 2 books (in Japanese), about 35 book chapters (14 English books, 20 Japanese books and one translated to Chinese), and edited more than 10 books including textbooks and handbooks. He has also given over 40 invited and plenary lectures in international conferences.

He has been worked for several academic societies and he served as a director for the Japanese Society of Polymer Science, the Society of Fiber Science and Technology, Japan (SFSTJ), Japanese Society for Biomaterials, Japan, Japanese society of Colour Material, etc.  He was the president of SFSTJ from 2006-2010.

He had been an Associate Editor of Progress in Polymer Science in 1991-1995, Chemistry Letters in 1996-1999, Journal of Biomaterials Science Polymer Edition in 1998-2008, Biomedical Materials and Engineering since 2002. He was an associate member of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in 2005-2011.

He has been awarded 2000th JSBM Award ((Japanese Society of Bio-Materials), 2003th 003, Tejima Memorial Award for invention (Tejima Foundation), 2005th Science & Technology Award (Minister of Education), 2007th Fukuzawa Award (Keio University), 2009th SPSJ Award for Outstanding Achievement in Polymer Science and Technology (The Society of Polymer Science, Japan), 2010th Award for Outstanding Achievement in Science of Biomaterials (Japanese Society of Bio-materials), and 2013th Award for Outstanding Achievement in Fiber Science (SFSTJ).
